My Border Carnation list features several additional varieties.

Over the past two years I have been trialling a peat free compost and have had had excellent results.  It is a soil based medium containing grit and green compost to which I have added my own nutriments.  With both carnations and crysanthemums is has proved its worth growing plants to show quality standards.  I now have this compost available for sale on a collection only basis at £4.50 per 25 kg bag.

Tips for the month of February

Plants should now be ready for their final pots although I am finding that they are a bit slow this year in developing, probably 2-3 weeks behind last years development.  This is almost certainly due to the poor light levels we are getting and of course the cold weather.

I am still keeping my plants fairly dry watering only when absolutely necessary and then only in the mornings on a dry day.

Keep an eye out for pests and diseases and treat as necessary.
